Religious Difference and Mass Violence in Muslim Societies
The Institute of International and Security Studies invites you to an open lecture titled Liminal Minorities. Religious Difference and Mass Violence in Muslim Societies, to be presented by Güneş Murat Tezcür from Arizona State University-ASU (USA).
Güneş Murat Tezcür is the director of the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University-ASU (USA). As a researcher in comparative politics, he focuses on political violence and identity politics, concentrating on Iranian, Kurdish, and Turkish human geography. His works have appeared in many leading academic journals. His latest book is: ‘Liminal Minorities: Religion and Mass Violence in Muslim Societies (Cornell University Press, 2024). He is also the editor of ‘The Oxford Handbook of Turkish Politics (Oxford University Press, 2022) and ‘Kurds and Yezidis in the Middle East: Shifting Identities, Borders, and the Experience of Minority Communities’ (I.B. Tauris, 2021). Before joining ASU in 2023, he served as the Jalal Talabani Endowed Director and head of the School of Political Science, Security, and International Affairs (University of Central Florida).
The lecture will take place on December 18th in Hall A (Institute of Political Science), from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
Professor Güneş Murat Tezcür has been invited to the University of Wrocław as part of a competition to support the arrival of visiting professors for long-term visits, which is part of the Initiative of Excellence – Research University program.
