In this lecture, Prof. Guerra will take us to the intersections of culture, identity, and music in urban contexts, with a special emphasis on the transformative power of genres like kuduro. Drawing from her extensive expertise in sociology of music, she will shed light on how these musical expressions have become agents of visibility, representation, and societal change.

About the lecturer:

Paula Guerra is an associate professor and researcher at the Institute of Sociology, University of Porto. She holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor at the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research in Australia.

Aside from being the founder/coordinator of the Network All the Arts, Paula Guerra is the founder of KISMIF, an international academic/cultural/artistic conference celebrating its 10th edition this summer in Porto.

Paula is a member of the Board of the Research Network of Sociology of Art of ESA and Chair of the Portuguese Branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music. She coordinates several research projects subordinated to the sociology of the arts & music, youth and DIY cultures, among others.
