About the Faculty
The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the biggest faculties of the University of Wrocław.
It includes: the Institute of International Studies and Security, Institute of Philosophy, Institute of Political Science, Institute of Sociology, Institute of European Studies, and Chair of Logic and Methodology of Science. The Faculty Library is located at the campus, too.
Students of the Faculty are educated at 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycle studies in Polish and in English, full time and part time. The majors in Polish include: economic sociology, European diplomacy, European studies, ethics, international relations, management of social projects, migration management, national security, philosophy, political science, social work, sociology, sociology of dispositional groups.
As far as English-language studies are concerned, students may choose for example: culture, thought and humanity, European studies – EU Politics, international relations – global studies, global communication, political science, sociology – international mediation.
The Faculty of Social Sciences offers also post-graduate studies: management of multicultural conflict and professional mediation.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is the only faculty at the University of Wrocław which offers Doctoral Colleges in English.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is among the most internationalised units of the University of Wrocław, with its multiple international agreements and advanced international cooperation. We implement such programmes as Erasmus Mundus: “Global Studies”, “MITRA” and others. We also offer the Double Degree programme: its completion at the major in international relations guarantees acquisition of diplomas of the University of Wrocław and University of Padua or University of Wrocław and University Bochum, and in political science – diplomas of the University of Wrocław and Georgian Institute of Public Affairs in Tbilisi. Moreover, studying in English involves multiple options of participating in international exchange programmes, including Erasmus+, CEEEPUS, or ISEP, as well as international student conferences and summer schools.
Studying at the Faculty of Social Sciences is a scientific adventure not only thanks to the interesting teaching offer, but also with participation in various science clubs and research projects. It involves learning in multicultural and international environment, allowing you to co-shape the atmosphere of openness and understanding for various social processes.
Most students of our Faculty are citizens of Poland, but we also have students from dozens other countries, including citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, Germany, Georgia, India, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Brazil.
Since September 2021, the Faculty of Social Sciences operates the “Welcome Centre”. This is a promotion and information outlet designed to coordinate the Faculty’s teaching offer, as well as its promotion activities. The centre also coordinates staff scientific exchange.
The Faculty of Social Sciences is also a community of scientists implementing research projects in several disciplines, including philosophy, political science and administration, sociology, security sciences, and from 2022 also international relations. The Faculty has labs and workshops; it publishes scientific journals and its staff are actively involved in national and international scientific organisations. The Faculty keeps developing its cooperation with its external environment, taking joint initiatives with the non-governmental sector, government and local institutions, schools, business and mass media. We are also increasingly open to international cooperation, developing our partnership with prestigious scientific centres and world-class researchers, who frequently visit the Faculty of Social Sciences in Wrocław.
